Inpatient Services for Children

Newport News Behavioral Health Center offers acute psychiatric treatment to children as young as 8 who require immediate stabilization for mental health crises. The 13,000 square foot newly constructed secure environment offers 24 total beds and is located adjacent to the residential treatment facility.

A brief therapy approach focusing on stabilizing crisis situations serves males and females and provides support to families. The freestanding facility is located on a rural campus setting, providing a natural and soothing environment. Activity and group rooms, outdoor courtyards, a dining area, patient rooms with individual bathrooms (two patients per room) and recreational areas are provided.

The Acute Care Center is open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and is staffed with qualified mental health professionals, including master’s level clinicians, registered nurses, mental health technicians and board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrists.

  • How to make sure your child is on the right path
  • Understanding the steps to take to reach individual and family goals
  • Development of longer-term goals
  • The practice of many skills learned while in care to assist the child and family at the time of discharge.

Program Components:

  • A structured daily clinical program
  • Individual, group and family therapy
