Instructions for Referring Professionals

If you are a clinical professional seeking mental health treatment for a young patient, Newport News Behavioral Health Center can help. Our Newport News, VA, facility stands to help children and adolescents address their behavioral and emotional issues. We strive to help these patients work through their issues so they can return to the community with new coping skills.

Our admissions department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help referring professionals initiate the admission process. We provide no-cost, confidential assessments to determine the child or adolescent’s treatment needs. Following this, we recommend the treatment program most suitable to address those treatment needs.

Admission Criteria and Documents

Potential patients or residents need to meet certain criteria in order to be eligible for treatment at our facility. These criteria vary based on the treatment program to which you want the adolescent admitted. 

There are also certain documents you must submit to gain admission to a program for your patient. Like the admission criteria, the required documents also vary by program. Please visit the admissions page for the complete lists of required criteria and documents.

Treatment Options for Your Patient

To meet the multitude of treatment needs in our patient population, we offer a range of programs for children and adolescents. Programs offer different treatment services and levels of intensity to address the severity of every patient’s condition.

We provide acute inpatient care for children and adolescents who are faced with a mental health crisis or substance abuse issues. Our psychiatric residential treatment facility serves adolescents who have exhausted less intensive treatment services and need an intensive treatment setting. There is also a specialty program for male adolescents who are sexually aggressive.
