Children Behavioral Health Treatment Programs

Virginia Treatment Center for Children

Newport News Behavioral Health Center, in Newport News, VA, psychiatric treatment for children as young as 8 with behavioral health issues. We offer acute inpatient treatment to help our young residents address psychiatric symptoms that may impact their home and school life. The acute inpatient program is designed to help children return to their community with new coping skills they can use in daily life.

Our behavioral health programs are overseen by a team that includes therapists, psychiatrists and licensed professional counselors. Treatment includes individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, medication management and psychoeducation. The treatment team meets each resident at their level of functioning and tailors treatment to their specific needs.

To help our young patients maintain progress after leaving our care, we connect them with appropriate aftercare service providers. Aftercare is meant to help children and their families continue on the path of recovery and reduce the risk of setbacks. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about children behavioral health.

Inpatient Program

Acute inpatient treatment for children takes place in the Acute Care Center. Located next to our main facility, the Acute Care Center provides 24-hour intensive treatment to children who suffer from acute psychiatric conditions. The facility is staffed by master’s level clinicians, registered nurses, mental health technicians and board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrists.

The main goal of child inpatient acute care is to help these residents de-escalate from an acute crisis. We help them learn effective coping skills and behaviors so they may return home or to less intensive care as quickly as possible.
